Auckland Print Studio at Unitec aims to initiate and facilitate fine art projects
with professional artists, architects and other design-based practitioners. |
Auckland Print Studio (APS) was established in 2008
APS specialises in stone and photo-plate lithography and etchings but also has capabilities in monotype, screen-printing and relief print. The studio recently aquired a Mailänder Offset Proofing Press from Canada. The press was able to be purchased through the generosity of the Arts Community following a crowdsource funding campaign through Boosted. The press will allow for increased production and scope of practice as well as a more affordable service to artists. The Auckland Print Studio aims to initiate and facilitate fine art projects with professional artists, architects and other design-based practitioners. |
APS has produced over 200 editions by more than 50 artists, runs public and private workshops and offers awards and internship opportunities. It also provides students with unique opportunities for support in attaining their Masters and Doctorate degrees.
In 2010, APS established an artist residency program, which has ensured international practitioners (alongside local artists) have benefited from the studio's setup and ongoing printmaking experience. Demand for this residency is competitive and attracts a high calibre of artists. APS consults with other art agencies and the public about general print practice, editioning and technical advice. |
We endeavour to create an active laboratory environment where these practitioners can explore how printmaking can extend their contemporary practice. We enjoy the challenges and rewards of working with artists to realise their creative and conceptual ideas through printmaking.
